Mass Vaccination Centers in Lahore Close Down Due to Shortage

Two Mass Vaccination Centers (MVCs) in Lahore have been closed due to an acute shortage of COVID-19 vaccine in Punjab.

According to details, MVCs at the Expo Center and the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) have been shut down while other MVCs in the provincial capital may close amid a precarious situation.

Citizens are being told to return home by the security guards of the two MVCs, stating that the vaccination process has stopped due to the maintenance of NADRA’s website– National Immunization Management System (NIMS)—and will resume after two days. Meanwhile, the healthcare staff at the rest of the MVCs in Lahore are only facilitating the citizens coming for a second dose of the vaccine while denying the first dose.

Elsewhere in Punjab, the vaccination process has also stopped in some MVCs of Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala due to the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines.

A senior official at Punjab’s Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD), on the condition of anonymity, revealed that only a day’s stock of COVID-19 vaccine is available in the province.

On the other hand, Punjab’s Health Minister, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, has denied the reports of shortage of COVID-19 vaccine in the province.

Addressing a press conference, the Minister said that 240,000 citizens are being vaccinated daily in the province, adding that P&SHD recently distributed 1.6 million in all districts of the province and three days’ stock of COVID-19 vaccine is still available with P&SHD.
