Senior journalist and columnist, Hamid Mir, has apologized for his speech against Pakistan Army at a protest rally organized against the attack on journalist Asad Toor last month.
Mir officially tendered the apology before a special committee formed by the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) and the National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad to probe into allegations leveled by the veteran journalist.

He explained to the committee, consisting of former President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Afzal Butt, President RIUJ, Amir Sajjad Syed, and President NPC, Shakeel Anjum, that he did not intend to defame the Pakistan Army but got carried away after speeches from fellow journalists.
He said he had always held high regard for the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan Army and had covered different army operations from Siachen to the LoC.

Following his last month’s speech, Geo News barred Hamid Mir from hosting the famous Capital Talk program. Since Mir’s suspension, Abdullah Sultan has been hosting Capital Talk as a temporary host.
In an official statement, Geo/Jang Group clarified that Mir had been taken off-air due to strong backlash from all segments of society as a result of his fiery speech on 28 May at a protest organized by PFUJ at the NPC Islamabad.
