Saudi Arabia Announces New Short Transit Visas

Saudi Arabia has authorized transit visit visas for validity periods of 48 hours (two days) and 96 hours (3 days). Each option comes with a standard fee-scale of SR100 and SR300 respectively.

KSA’s Council of Economic and Development Affairs, the Cabinet’s General Committee, and the Shura Council, have all recommended the issuance procedure for short-term visit visas for passengers in lay-over. According to Saudi Gazette, the joint cabinet decided to amend the Schedule of Visit, Hajj and Transit Visas by land, sea or air.

The updated visa policy substantially aims to improve and develop regulations related to entry visas to KSA. In the long run, the Saudi authorities view this amendment as a boost for the Kingdom’s tourism sector. Hundreds of passengers will significantly benefit from this.

Before COVID-19 made headlines as a recurring pandemic, thousands of passengers had passed through KSA’s airport on a daily basis. This was before international air services were suspended in the region. Passengers linked to connected flights were forced to stay within transit areas and weren’t allowed to go out. Saudi Arabia’s amended short-term visa policy aims to help passengers who find themselves in such situations in the future.

Facebook’s New Feature Helps You Donate Food And Clothes To The Needy

Facebook is launching a convenient new feature called “Drives” that will help people collect clothes and food from each other in emergency situations. The feature will build on the social network’s fundraising and community causes, though this time it will be less about raising money and more about donating goods.

As always, Facebook Drives will launch in the US first and will be a part of the website’s Community Help hub. This can be accessed by typing “Community Help” in the search bar and selecting “Request or Offer Help” followed by “Create Drive”.

You will then be asked to fill a form with information including the type and number of items you’re looking for. Once that’s done, it will show you a tracker with the number of items left to collect.

As mentioned before, Facebook Drives is built on the social network’s fundraising tools that were released over the years including Emergency Relief, Charities, Non-Profits, and Personal Causes.

The feature will roll out to users in the US over the next few days and will hopefully become available to other regions in the future as well. Just like the US, it should be a highly welcome feature in Pakistan too.

Shoaib Akhtar Reveals the Reason Behind Mohammad Amir’s ‘Ruined’ Career

Former fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar, said that Mohammad Amir couldn’t fulfill his promising potential due to bad company.

Mohammad Amir burst onto the scene at the age of 17 in the 2009 T20 World Cup and was instrumental in Pakistan’s journey to lift their first and only T20 mega event’s title. His career was cut short due to the 2010 spot-fixing scandal, which shocked the cricketing world.

Mohammad Amir, along with captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were caught in a spot-fixing scandal and were subsequently banned from cricket. Mohammad Amir lost five years of his career and returned to cricket as a shell of his former self.

Shoaib believes that Amir would have been much more efficient and effective had he not involved himself in bad company and could have achieved new heights for Pakistan cricket.

“Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir was also cautioned before the tour of England but he was taken away by bad company,” Akhtar said.

Amir, who was a mainstay in the national set up, has now lost his place in the team. Since his snubbing from the team, there have been question marks over his fitness and performance. He wasn’t selected for the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe and his name was again omitted from the 35-man squad from the tour of New Zealand.

Fishermen Catch Catfish Worth Rs. 11 Million Near Karachi

Local fishermen near Karachi employed at least seven boats to catch over 100 metric tonnes of catfish, according to reports.

The fishermen took around five hours to harvest a large batch of catfish at Khai Creek, a trawling set up at the mouth of Indus Delta. The entire harvest was auctioned off at the Karachi Fish Harbor, recording a sizeable sale of Rs. 11 million, WWF-Pakistan stated on Monday.

Technical Advisor (Marine Fisheries) WWF-Pakistan, Muhammad Moazzam Khan, remarked,

In the past, aggregation of sea catfish was frequently found between October to March. Naturally, catfish are susceptible to breeding aggregations in coastal areas. Catfish form large breeding aggregations in coastal areas.

According to Khan, the existing aggregation consists of a singular species called Netuma Thalassina. This breed of fish typically tends to grow to a size of 180 cm, weighing 19 kg. In terms of a mass-scale aggregation, the schools or herds of sea catfish are regularly observed at the mouth of the Indus Delta, along Sonmiani Bay, the Ormara plateau, and Pasni in Balochistan.

According to WWF-Pakistan, overfishing and oceanographic changes have limited such massive aggregations to a rare occurrence. For context, an aggregation of this scale was last reported from Khobar Creek in 2017, when four boat-fills of fishermen harvested 80 metric tonnes of catfish. Similarly, along Balochistan’s coastal area, the last such aggregation was reported in April 2015, and 150 metric tonnes of catfish were harvested by ten boats.

Historically though, the largest known occurrence of a massive aggregation of sea catfish was reported in April 1984 at Pedi Zur (Ormara). According to reports, around 700 metric tonnes of catfish were harvested. This massive aggregation contained only a single catfish school, and quite surprisingly, its harvest took only five days to complete.

PlayStation 5 is Finally Getting Variable Refresh Rate

Variable refresh rate (VRR) is a feature that should have been available on the PlayStation 5 by default, but Sony says that it will be added to the console in the near future.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 Officially Goes on Sale Today

The Japanese tech company confirmed through an official PS5 FAQ that VRR is in the works and will be available for everyone soon, something that should have been there by default since the console comes with an HDMI 2.1 which supports said feature.

The Xbox One X, Series X, and Series S, all have support for VRR, which is quite a convenient feature for gamers since the new consoles are easily capable of pushing 120fps at 1080p resolution. Some games tend to suffer from stuttering and FPS drops with higher refresh rate displays, but VRR helps smooth out the gaming experience quite a bit.

Keep in mind that once the feature becomes available on the PS5, it will not enable VRR everywhere by default as your TV will also need to have support for HDMI 2.1.

There is no word on when VRR will be added to the PS5, but it should come pretty soon.

Huawei’s Upcoming P50 Phones Will Use Samsung Displays And Kirin 9000 Chips

After launching its Mate 40 series, the Chinese Smartphone maker Huawei is working on launching its next flagship series, the P50. Despite multiple disruptions by the US imposed sanctions, the OEM is on track to launch the P50 phones in the first half of 2021.

A recent report by The Elec, a South Korean publication, citing internal sources, details that Samsung Display and LG Display are ready to supply OLED panels for the new models. Both companies acquired licenses to work with Huawei back in October this year.

The Smartphones will use the new Kirin 9000 chipsets from the in-house HiSilicon division, which shows things are in line for the Chinese company. This is the usual course of action it follows, the new Kirin chips debut with the Mate series and are used in the P-series a few months later.

Reportedly, Huawei stockpiled several million Kirin 9000 chips to use in its phones before sanctions cut off its supply from TSMC. Most likely, a portion of the chipsets was freed since Honor smartphones will no longer use Kirin chipsets. However, it’s highly likely that TSMC will also acquire a license to work with the company soon.

In 2019, due to the massive success of its flagship lineups, Huawei nearly caught up to Samsung. Unfortunately, the company’s woes this year will allow Samsung to retain its lead, but we might see Huawei get back in the race by 2021.
