Huawei’s subsidiary Honor has finally launched one of its most anticipated smartphone series, the Honor Play 4. Both smartphones in the series come with a 7nm Chipset, 5G connectivity, and top-notch cameras at an extremely reasonable price.
Design and Display
Like most Honor and Huawei Smartphones, the Honor Play 4 and 4 Pro take after the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S20. They have a similar rectangular camera aisle. Although the paint job puts them apart from the flagship.
The Toned-down Honor Play 4 is built around a massive 6.81-inch LCD with 1080p resolution and a punch hole at the top left corner.
The Honor Play 4 Pro, on the other hand, features a slightly smaller 6.57-inch LCD with 1080p resolution and a dual punch hole on the top left.
Internals and Storage
The Honor Play 4 is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 5G chipset topped with 8GB of RAM and 128GB expandable storage. In contrast, the Pro variant is run by Kirin 990, accompanied by similar memory specifications.
Both smartphones come with Magic UI 3.1 flavored Android 10 out of the box.
Cameras
The slightly toned-down Honor Play 4 boasts a quad-sensor rear camera setup with a 64 MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2 MP macro camera, and a 2 MP depth sensor. The primary sensor is optimized for higher resolution rather than low-light performance. For selfies, it is equipped with a 16 MP sensor.
The Pro variant features a dual-sensor camera setup on the back. The main shooter is a 40 MP Sony IMX600 with an RYYB filter. According to the company, it can capture 40 percent more light than traditional sensors. The secondary sensor is an 8 MP one that offers 3x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). It also comes with a Laser AF system to help with the autofocus. For selfies, the smartphone features a 32 MP + 8 MP camera system.
Battery and Pricing
Both smartphones come with a 4200 mAh battery. The vanilla model features a 22.5W fast charging capability while the Pro variants boast support for 40W fast charging. They are currently available for sale in China and will cost $260 and $410 for the vanilla and Pro variant, respectively.
