In September this year, rumors regarding an Apple object tracker dubbed the Apple Air tags were making rounds on the internet. The tracker was supposedly set to launch with the iPhone 12, but it seems like Apple had a change of plans at the last moment.
Now Samsung is following the same path and is working on a smart object tracker of its own, akin to Tile.
Although details were not revealed, experts believe this new device will work with Samsung’s SmartThings Find feature that can find compatible Galaxy products with more accuracy, and the upcoming Galaxy Smart Tag is going to be one of those.
Based on the name, Samsung’s tag is most likely going to be a smart object tracker to compete with Tile. The device was recently certified by the Indonesian authorities with the model number EI-T5300.
This is not the company’s first object tracker. In 2018, Samsung launched the SmartThings LTE-enabled tracker. However, we are unsure of how the Samsung Tag will operate. There are no details regarding its connectivity. It will either stick to Bluetooth like other products in the market or will use additional stuff like UWB, LTE, and/or GPS.
Since the device was only recently certified, we will not be surprised if the Samsung tag goes official with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series in January.
