Orange Line Train Gantry Falls Onto Parked Cars After Major Accident

The Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project has had a major accident just 10 days after its launch as a high-speed container-carrying trailer-truck lost control on the road and crashed into a height gantry under the OLMT track near Baghbanpura, Lahore. The impact of the collision toppled the gantry onto the pavement.

As evident in the video, the incident took place in the middle of the night, and 2 parked cars were crushed under the gantry. The truck driver and the passenger sustained a few injuries, and no other casualties were reported.

Onlookers reported that the accident occurred due to the extraordinary height of the heavy load-carrying truck. Furthermore, an OLMT representative informed the media that the height-gantries had been erected to guard the underlying cables which are integral to the daily operations of the project.

The service was launched on October 25, 2020, and 22 trains currently traverse the tracks daily. The 45-minute one-way route is 27 km long and connects Ali Town and Dera Gujran. The route has 19 stations and the working hours of the service are from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM.
