The US government imposed sanctions created a rift in Huawei’s operations and led to a decrease in the Chinese smartphone maker’s market share. Where this was bad news for Huawei, other OEMs like Xiaomi and Oppo came out as beneficiaries in this situation.
It is clear that Oppo is trying to grab the opportunity and take advantage of Huawei’s situation. The company recently filed a patent for a smartphone with 15x hybrid zoom. According to a report by LetsGoDigital, Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications filed this new smartphone design patent in July 2020.
The document was approved and published last month on November 6.
The patents detail that the smartphone will feature a curved display with a centered punch-hole camera. As of now, only Samsung smartphones come with OLED displays and a centered punch-hole. However, this patent proves that things might change in the near future.
Apart from this, the document reveals that the handset will house a horizontally aligned triple camera setup that will support 15x hybrid zoom. A similar patent for a smartphone with a circular pop-up selfie camera was filed by the company earlier this year.
The handset will have a power key on the right and the volume rocker on the left. It will come with support for USB Type-C at the bottom along with a speaker grille.
Note that this is only a patent and does not mean the smartphone will become a reality. OEMs publish a lot of patents every year, but not every one of them makes it as a commercial product.
