MG Teases 2 New SUVs for Pakistani Car Buyers

Morris Garages (MG) had announced its arrival in Pakistan in June this year. The China-based British automaker has reportedly started its operations here in association with JW Park Autos.

A few days ago, it was revealed that MG will officially debut its HS crossover SUV in Pakistan in December, followed by its All-Electric ZS EV crossover SUV.

In recent weeks, MG’s social media page stated that the automaker will also be introducing a midsize SUV and a pickup truck to its lineup in Pakistan. The automaker had posted images of the Gloster SUV and the Extender, a Sports Utility pickup truck, with coming soon caption its official Facebook page.

On 12 September, the owner of JW Park Motors and a key stakeholder of MG Pakistan, Javed Afridi, posted a video teaser of a new arrival in the SUV market of Pakistan. The teaser featured the MG Gloster, a midsize luxury SUV, that is based on the creation of the Chinese automaker Maxus and is being sold across various continents as the ‘D90’. Note that MG is a contingent of the Chinese automaker SIAC that owns Maxus.

The Gloster is a proper ‘body-on-frame’ SUV equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 215 horsepower and 480 newton-meters of torque. All the power is sent to either the rear wheels or all the wheels, depending on whether the variant is a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is also offered with an all-electric motor in Australia and New Zealand.

The Extender is MG’s mid-size sports utility pickup truck that reportedly shares almost seventy-five percent of its underpinnings with the Gloster SUV. It is most commonly available in the international market with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 161 horsepower and 375 newton-meters of torque, all of which is sent either to the rear wheels or all four wheels via a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. However, its All-Wheel Drive variant only comes with an automatic transmission option.

Upon arrival, the two heavyweights are likely to go up against the Toyota Fortuner and Hilux respectively. The details of their launch dates and prices are still undisclosed, and until any official details are revealed, all we can do is wait.
