The incident took place in the match between Galle Gladiators and Kandy Tuskers in LPL on Monday. Pakistani pacer, Mohammad Amir, and Afghanistan youngster, Naveen-ul-Haq, went head to head in a high-octane match.

During handshakes between the two teams after the match, Afridi came out and lashed out at the Afghani player.

Afridi took to Twitter to explain his actions:

My advise to the young player was simple, play the game and don't indulge in abusive talk. I have friends in Afghanistan team and we have very cordial relations. Respect for teammates and opponents is the basic spirit of the game. https://t.co/LlVzsfHDEQ

After the tweet, it was expected that some sense would prevail, the players would calm down and take the advice of the former Pakistani captain, but unfortunately, the war of words continued as Naveen-ul-Haq responded to the tweet.

Pakistan and Afghanistan cricket teams have shared a tense rivalry over the past few years, mainly due to the political tensions in the neighboring countries. Previously, Afghanistan and Pakistan spectators also clashed during the match between the two teams in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Recently the relations between the two countries looked to be improving as Prime Minister Imran Khan met with the Afghanistan cricket team and invited them to tour Pakistan.
