Official: PCB Postpones Bangladesh Series & Pakistan Cup

The Pakistan and Bangladesh cricket boards have decided to postpone the upcoming One-Day International and Test in Karachi to a later date.
The two boards will now work together to identify a future opportunity to complete the ICC World Test Championship commitment. ProPakistani had already reported that the BCB had decided not to tour Pakistan and the PCB was informed of this decision a few days ago.

The first Test of the series was played in Rawalpindi from 7-10 February, which Pakistan won by an innings and 44 runs.
The Bangladesh men’s national cricket team was due to arrive in Karachi on 29 March to play an ODI on 1 April and the second ICC World Test Championship Test from 5-9 April. The schedule had been revised on Bangladesh’s request but the coronavirus pandemic has forced the boards to postponse the series altogether.

KP Police’s Female Commando Gets Selected For UN Peacekeeping Mission

Gul Nisa, a female commando serving in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police, has been selected for the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.
Gul hails from Tank, a remote region of KP, and joined KP Police’s Elite Commando Force 5 years ago.
Along with 24 other female officers, Gul will join the already deployed Pakistani soldiers on UN peacekeeping missions.

Apple, Google & Amazon Block Unofficial Coronavirus Apps

According to a new report from CNBC, both Apple and Google have started blocking applications relating to COVID-19 that are not from recognized entities. The tech giants are rejecting apps from developers and are directing users to the WHO website. Most of the applications are designed to display statistics regarding the virus outbreak and the countries labelled as a pandemic.
On Sunday, Apple posted a statement on its developer website saying it would accept coronavirus-related apps only from “recognized entities such as government organizations, health-focused NGOs, companies deeply credentialed in health issues, and medical or educational institutions.” Apple wants to ensure that all data sources are reputable and correct.
Apple is urging developers to mark their submissions as part of a “Time-Sensitive Event” to expedite the review. This will help in getting the applications approved quickly.

Sindh Reports 50 New Cases of Coronavirus in 24 Hours

Sindh has reported 50 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus patients to 76 in the province bringing the total number of cases in Pakistan to 94.
The latest development comes in after the test results of people quarantined from Sukkur have come in. Sindh government’s spokesperson Murtaza Wahab confirmed this in a tweet.

Kuwait Just Changed the Words of Azaan Because of Coronavirus

Amid the increasing threat of Covid-19, Kuwait has made some tweaks in Azaan asking people to perform prayers at home. The measure was part of precautionary actions to keep its citizens safe from the viral infection.
Muezzins there have replaced ‘hayya alas-salah’ with ‘Al-salatu fi Buyutikum,’ urging people to offer prayers at homes. When asked, the country’s health spokesperson, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, said that the step has helped them prevent local transmission.

LESCO to Install Millions of Internet-Connected Smart Meters

To curb power theft and address billing issues, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has decided to install 1.7 million modern meters based on advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
The total cost of the initiative will be around $300 million. Not only will the move help in saving traditional meter reading expenses, but it will also eliminate line losses.
Since, AMI based meters continuously transmit information to a central control room, incidents of transformers and meters catching fire will also decline significantly across the provincial capital.
Moreover, LESCO consumers will be able to check their electric load, voltage, and bill at any time.
Project Details Of the total project cost, ADB will pay almost 78.5% while LESCO will fund the remaining expenses.
Under the project, 1,474,532 single-phase and 213,120 three-phase AMI based meters will be installed in LESCO’s south and central circles.
