He informed that PIA is also aggressively pursuing this path and said, “We are evaluating and are on the lookout for opportunities to operate dedicated cargo flights to a number of sectors, specifically on China and Central Asian routes.” PIA is already operating passenger and cargo charters to Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan and Xi’an in China for different customers.

Uber Planning to Sell its Air-Taxi Business

Uber is reportedly in advance talks to sell its air taxi business unit – known as ‘Uber Elevate’ to a startup tech and aviation firm called Joby Aviation.

The development has reportedly taken place as Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, ventures to drive the company in a more profitable direction, which includes amputating the money and resource-draining divisions of the business.

Reports suggest that the company is looking to invest more resources in their autonomous vehicle division, however, the officials at Uber refused to comment on any such development.

Atlas Honda is Launching the New CB125F in Pakistan

Uber had, for the first time, publicly expressed its interest in the air-taxis back in 2016. In a tangible development in that direction last year, Uber began offering helicopter trips from Manhattan to John F. Kennedy International Airport. These trips were intended to offer a feel of what an air-taxi service, that could be used through the same Uber app, would be like.

Many technical and business experts are of the view that the idea was ‘bound to fail from the get-go’. Reason being the fact that the air-taxis relied on electric motor-propulsion technology, which, according to the experts, would’ve been an extremely costly service to set up, and would’ve required a lot of trial and error to perfect.

Reports also say that Uber’s decision to sell the division to Joby Aviation is a foreseen one since the company had already started working in association with the startup to further develop the air-taxi division. Joby Aviation has reportedly been working on the development of electric aircraft for over a decade

The startup was the only one, out of a bunch of contenders, to agree to work upon Uber’s over-ambitious timetable, as per which, the air-taxi service would’ve been launched by 2023. Maybe the startup is still following the same deadline, but no word has been heard from the officials in this regard.

Twitter Updates its Hate Speech Rules to Include Race and Nationality

Over the past few years, violence attributed to online hate speech has increased worldwide, which is why censorship on widely used tech platforms has become a necessity. Twitter is one of the social media platforms that has been actively rolling out policies to curb hate speech.

In a recent blog post, Twitter Safety has announced that the company is updating its hate speech rules once again. The new policy now includes banning hateful content that targets race, ethnicity, and nationality.

According to Twitter Safety, any tweets that violate Twitter’s new policy will be removed. Moreover, if the user is a repeat offender, their account may be suspended or banned. The platform will regularly monitor all content using “proactive detection and automation.”

The blog post reads,

We create our rules to keep people safe on Twitter, and they continuously evolve to reflect the realities of the world we operate within. Our primary focus is on addressing the risks of offline harm, and research shows that dehumanizing language increases that risk. While we encourage people to express themselves freely on Twitter, abuse, harassment, and hateful conduct continue to have no place on our service.

Here are some examples of tweets that are considered hateful.

The platform updated its rules in early 2020 when it prohibited hateful content pertaining to disability, age, and disease. The company initially started cracking down on content that dehumanized others based on caste or religion in July 2019. Since then, it has been slowly updating the rules to make Twitter a safe place on the internet.

CPEC Projects to Gain Momentum in Coming Months

Minister for Economic Affairs, Khusro Bakhtyar, is optimistic that the implementation of projects under the CPEC framework will be expedited.

Bakhtyar stated the joint cooperation committee meeting, which is scheduled later this month, will be extremely helpful for Pakistan’s balance of trade. He further added the implementation of pivotal socioeconomic, energy, transport, infrastructure, and SEZ projects will pick up the pace.

The minister, during a meeting with China’s newly appointed Ambassador, Nong Rong, said,

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of Pakistan’s economy. Pakistan and China should deepen and expand cooperation in the agriculture sector under CPEC umbrella to enhance productivity and value addition.

Armed Forces to Take Control of $50 Billion CPEC Projects Again

During the meeting, matters such as Pak-China economic relations, the COVID-19 struggle, CPEC, and matters of mutual interests were highlighted.

The minister expressed hope for Pakistan’s ties with China to strengthen beyond the Trade Belt. He commented on the strategic partnership of the two neighboring countries and the importance of maintaining a healthy geopolitical relationship, saying:

Pakistan and China are strategic partners, and both countries supported each other on the issues of their core interest.

CPEC kicked off five years ago, concentrating mainly on the construction of roads, motorways, and power plants to ensure energy security in the wake of massive power shortfall. The last few years have seen a series of power projects transform Pakistan into an energy-surplus destination from a power-deficient one.

SEZs are the next phase of development, after early harvest projects under the Pak-China Framework. The government expects to amass $1.3 billion worth of export revenue from industrial chemicals through establishing SEZs dedicated to biotechnology.

The second phase of industrial and agricultural cooperation has yet to be ascertained, with the debt burden on the economy often raising big questions.

Ambassador Nong said Pakistan-China relations would grow further under joint leadership. He conveyed China’s full support to the CPEC and concluded that Pakistan and China should further deepen cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral institutions.

In the first phase, a total of 1,544 km of roads were made operational, and a 1,456 km stretch is currently under construction. In the energy sector, 5,320 MW of electricity was added to the national grid, while progress on seven projects of 4,170 MW is nearing completion.

Gas Outage is Freaking You Out? Here’s How You Can Keep Your House Warm in Winter

By Wasib Imdad

Winters are here and so is the fear that again, these months of low temperatures will be marked by flickering heaters, cold stoves, dim fire pits, and still an ever-high gas bill. An option to switch to electric geysers, heaters, and stoves can be heavy on the pocket due to an increase in electricity bills.

Since the season has just begun and you may already be getting the gas-outage signs, diluting your frenzy is Graana.com as it brings you these clever ideas to keep your heating bill low and in check while ensuring that you stay cozy these winters.

Clear Out Exterior Walls in Daytime
During the day, usually more sunlight is absorbed by the exterior walls. Therefore, the easiest way to keep the house warm in winters is to let them do so. If any shades are installed over the outer walls, remove them.

Later, at night, that absorbed heat will help keep your house warm. If curtains are in place, ensure that the windows are draped by the thinner layer of the curtain so that the warm sunlight can flood the unit. After 4 PM, when the direction of the sun changes, draw the curtains tight to stop any cool air from pervading the absorbed warmth.

Follow the Rule of Thumb
Follow something known as the ‘Rule of Thumb’, where it is made sure that the curtains are draped on the windows at night. It is because the air can seep in through the gaps that are usually present in the windows.

Usually, people, in colder nights, use two-layered curtains or a single thicker one to keep the cold draft away. The inner layer must be lighter because it acts as a seal, and it prevents the cold air from coming or going outside. The outer layer should be heavier as it allows the warmth in but acts as a direct block to the rays entering.

The Direction of Ceiling Fans to be Reversed
Till now, if you’ve been thinking that fans are only effective during warmer and humid days, you’re mistaken.

Fans can be of great utility during the colder months and that can be seen by flipping the direction of the ceiling fan motor. By doing so, the room will instantly feel warmer because clockwise rotation pushes the warm air down increasing the temperature of the room. This trick will reduce the electricity bill by 10% as the thermostat can be lowered which usually consumes more power.

Running air conditioners during this season is not normal only but also maintains a comfortable temperature inside the house. DC Inverter AC reduces the electricity it needs and constantly keeps heating the room. By running in a low power consumption state, DC Inverter ACs save a lot of electricity.

Buy the Best Blankets
To stay cozy and warm at night, it must be ensured that the bedding is up to par.

When nature turns its thermostat down, the obvious solution is to turn the heat on in the bed. Just as written above with the curtains, layers of blankets can keep you warmer. Experts are of the opinion that heat can be best trapped by down-filled blankets, with percale or sateen sheets below them. They also suggest going extra-warm by using an electric blanket.

In case the warmth still isn’t enough, consider going for an electric mattress pad as it warms the whole bed from beneath the sheets.

Electric blankets should also only be used in the master bedroom and not in the children’s bedroom.

Check for Loopholes
You must have heard that a door stopper can help you stop the temperature of your house from plummeting.

If bedroom windows have several gaps, the warmth inside due to its lower density will leak away, leaving you wondering and chilly at the same time. The ideal solution to it is to get all doors and windows checked so that any unwanted air movement can be stopped and the room’s temperature can remain in control.

This will not only stop bugs from sneaking in but also curtail the energy losses.

Move Your Bed Away from The Window
If your bed is situated right under the window, you’ll ideally be sleeping on just a single side knowing that the colder air is seeping through from the window. The only solution to it, as mentioned earlier, is to cover the windows and block any seepage through them or to shift your bed away from it.

Make sure that the windows aren’t multi-paned, as if they are, the glass will cool down which will, in turn, cool down the air all around and make the room temperatures go cooler as well. This, however, isn’t a solution for every bedroom but worth a try.

Use a Thick Area Rug
Wood and laminate flooring have many advantages but keeping the place warm isn’t one of them. Thus, bestow a favor upon yourself and keep a thick area rug which will help insulate your room and keep your feet warm.

The sheepskin will not only be a heftier dose of style but will also cause coziness, allowing you to be a bit more mobile in the room.
