Federal Govt Mulls Over Options Against Sindh for Opposing NCOC’s Orders

Federal Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, has warned that the federal government will use its constitutional options if the Sindh government continues to neglect the federal government and NCOC’s orders in the province.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said the Sindh government miserably failed to enforce COVID-19 SOPs across the province and later decided to impose a lockdown by neglecting the recommendations of the federal government and the NCOC.

Disclosing the communication between the Sindh and federal governments before the lockdown in Karachi, he stated that CM Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, only informed SAPM on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, and Planning Minister and NCOC Chief, Asad Umar, about the decision of lockdown.

In response, the federal government conveyed to the Sindh government that lockdown is a federal matter, and provinces are not authorized to make individual decisions on matters concerning the federal government.

The Information Minister lamented that the federal government and all provincial governments jointly fought three waves of Coronavirus but the Sindh government has decided to tread a separate path this time.

He also asked the Sindh government to explain the reasons that led to a surge in positivity ratio in the provincial capital to over 30% in the days before the lockdown.
