Islamic University Fires the Whistle Blower of Male Rape Case

In an unfortunate development, the administration of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has dismissed the Associate Law Professor, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq, who blew the whistle on a male rape case two months ago.

Dr. Mushtaq was accused of prolonged absence from duty. According to the notification, he was served multiple notices, yet he responded to none of them.

The committee set up to question his undesirable conduct summoned him repeatedly, but the professor never turned up.

“The committee received no written reply from the respondent within the stipulated time. It was assumed that the respondent has nothing to say in his defence and the matter was decided as per ex parte. Hence, the charges of ‘misconduct’ against Dr. Mushtaq have been proved.”

Sources privy to the matter suggest that Dr. Mushtaq was an associate professor and was appointed as acting head because a professor was not available. After the appointment of a full-scale professor, he had been relieved from the charge.

However, instead of reporting to his parent department, Shariah Academy, he decided to go on indefinite leave without informing concerned authorities, and never bothered to respond to any of the notices he received from the university.

On the other hand, Advocate Umar Gillani, the professor’s counsel in a case pertaining to illegal and out-of-turn appointments at the Islamic International University, pending with the Islamabad High Court (IHC), has announced to challenge his removal in the high court. The professor was not available for comment.
