Coronavirus Situation in Karachi is At its Worst With All Hospitals Occupied

The Coronavirus situation in Karachi has deteriorated to a point that a number of public and private hospitals in the provincial capital have stopped admitting COVID-19 patients due to the unavailability of beds.

Speaking to the media, President Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) Karachi, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Muttaqi, said that COVID-19 wards in hospitals of Karachi have been overwhelmed with patients.

He added that the Delta variant of the Coronavirus, which first emerged from India, now accounts for 100% of COVID-19 cases in Karachi, urging the public to follow SOPs and get vaccinated at the earliest.

According to National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the COVID-19 positivity rate in Karachi has reached 26.32%- the highest since the beginning of the pandemic- as 980 critically ill patients are currently being treated in ICUs of hospitals in the city.

On Tuesday, NCOC held a meeting headed by the Federal Planning Minister and head of NCOC Asad Umar. The meeting was concerned by the rising number of Coronavirus cases in Karachi and endorsed the measures taken by the Sindh government to tackle the COVID-19 situation.

Asad Umar reiterated that the federal government will extend support to the Sindh government and will continue to provide essential healthcare equipment, including PPEs and oxygen, to deal with the deteriorating situation.
