Veteran all-rounder, Shoaib Malik, believes that Pakistan’s all-format captain, Babar Azam does not have the full authority and the major decisions of the team are not taken by him. Malik said that Babar is like his younger brother and he hopes that Babar can take the team to new heights.

Malik said “Babar Azam is like a younger brother to me, he has played a lot of cricket under me and also alongside myself so I am aware of his nature; so when he does take decisions (by himself), I will know that straightaway.”
There has been a lot of controversy regarding the squad and team selection, especially the fragile middle-order. The likes of Asif Ali, Danish Aziz, and Haider Ali have been tried numerous times but failed to impress.

The critics believe that the team selection was made by selectors only without any input from the captain. Babar, on the other hand, refuted the claims and stated that all major decisions of the team are made by him, after consulting the team management.
Malik also talked about his aspirations to be a part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad later this year. Although Malik has not been considered for selection since last year, he feels he is ready to come back to solidify a weak middle-order and help Pakistan lift their second T20 World Cup title.
