iPhones will soon be able to run faster thanks to MagSafe enabled cooling cases that will let the device run normally at higher temperatures. Needless to say, this will be limited to the iPhone 12 series since it’s the only iPhone lineup so far with support for MagSafe.
A phone’s performance is generally limited by two main aspects, battery draw, and temperature. If a phone undergoes a heavy workload, it tends to grow hotter, which not only limits performance but can also damage components over time. Unlike laptops or PCs, thermals are more difficult to manage in a Smartphone since they are much smaller and slimmer.
This is why Apple is working on a unique smart case for iPhones that will keep thermals under control. The Cupertino-based giant has published a design patent for a unique cooling case that will make use of MagSafe on the iPhone 12 series. This will allow the device’s CPU to run faster even at hotter temperatures once it detects the case.
The case will be embedded with magnets that will generate a magnetic field so the iPhone can detect it. Once it is detected, the phone will raise its thermal operating threshold, allowing it to run faster. The patent also suggests that Apple is working on additional features for the case to improve its cooling system.
However, as it is only a patent, we recommend taking this information with a grain of salt.
