Pakistani dramas are loved not only in their home country but they also have a major audience outside of Pakistan. Yes, there has been a lot of debate regarding the kind of scripts we have in Pakistan nowadays and if the content should evolve but one thing remained steady and that is the mega viewership of television dramas. What finally serves as the legacy of a good drama is how it ended. Writing great conclusions has not been a strong point for our film writers and unfortunately drama writers have also started suffering from this syndrome lately. A drama getting millions of views will disappoint the audiences in the end, thus ruining the overall viewing experience. Here is a list of some big dramas that recently aired and ruined the whole story by taking the wrong turn in the end.
Tere Bin
Tere Bin is the biggest blockbuster in the history of Pakistani dramas. The chemistry between Yumna Zaidi and Wahaj Ali was superb and made the drama a mega hit. But the ending fell flat with the whole script destroyed as the makers changed the problematic plot of the drama under public pressure. So, what was written was Meerab going through marital rape and leaving Murtasim and later on giving birth to their daughter. As they removed this point from the drama under pressure, what was left was a stupid Meerab who left beacuse she was stupid and later came back without any reason or incentive. Tere Bin is a blockbuster for sure but the audience hated how they ruined the drama in the end as they did not consider public back lash over a very sensitive issue of marital rape while they were writing the story initially.
Ishq Murshid
Another mega blockbuster is Ishq Murshid which met the same fate of unnecessary dragging and finally reaching a point where no one knew what was happening. The drama was all about Shibra and Shahmeer but at first their wedding was rushed, then another cultural wedding was added. Shahmeer was a killer by the end and did not do anything for his people rather left everything to his incompetent and corrupt father while Shibra was unnecessarily naive as she knew she was marrying a politician. A drama that was so well-knit in the start ended up with a stupid ending that made no sense while makers made money through cinema screenings as well.
Jhok Sarkar
Another drama with the cast led by Farhan Saeed and Hiba Bukhari and important messages regarding rural waderas, policing and minority rights ended up in a dark ditch. The drama’s ending was not made as per the script written by Hashim Nadeem and the writer shared this tidbit with the world. The whole cast died and there was no triumph or anything to celebrate. We did not even get the chemistry between the leads to flourish or go anywhere. Jhok Sarkar’s ending was so abrupt that it disappointed not only fans but also the star writer of this drama Hashim Nadeem.
Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha
Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha brought Wahaj Ali fresh off Tere Bin stardom and Hania Aamir fresh off Mere Humsafar success together. The drama was meant to be a love story with Kaifi Khalil’s iconic song Kahani Suno as the OST. What could go wrong you may ask? Well, everything. The drama never came to a point when fans could feel the chemistry between the two stars and it just ended abruptly as Hania accepts Wahaj’s love for her while Zaviyar Nauman Ijaz gets into another controversy at the hands of his cousin because- why not?
Namak Haram
What the makers promised us was a murder mystery and a revenge story alongside the comeback of hit on-screen pairing of Imran Ashraf and Sarah Khan. What we got was a story that was open by the 5th or 6th episode, some extra characters which were given way too much screen time and the hero getting murdered with no achievement to his credit in the end. The heroine on the other hand went into a deep depression as she kept living in servant quarters all her life and brought up her kid. Basically, wasting the time and energy of the audience.
Akhara
Akhara is a drama by Green TV that brought a very different story line on television. With Sultan’s death, fans were loving the high octane action and drama that kicked in but the ending is one of the worst in history with all the action heroes mostly slaving away to their “romantic love” and no one really caring about how Sultan died. Overall another abrupt ending with many loose ends.
Khumar
Another big drama with Feroze Khan and Neelam Muneer in the lead and another story which ended in a nonsensical manner. Yes, this was a typical masala story with a mother in law hell bent on destroying everyting and a heroine roaming around with a stranger without realizing the consequences on her marriage but still the ending could have been way better as it was getting millions of views per episode but the end did not make the audience happy.
Mein
Mein was another big budgeted drama of this season with a lot of expectations attached to it. It had Ayeza Khan and Wahaj Ali in the lead but if in a drama with Ayeza and Wahaj as leads, your basic take away is how suave, cool and right Asif Uncle was and his ruthlessness inspires you more than the hero’s cracked backbone then you know it was a terrible ending. In the end, no one found happiness in Mein and Wahaj Ali played a character who was down right stupid and had no control over his own circumstances.
Mayi Ri
Mayi Ri was another blockbuster which launched two stars like Samar Jafri and Aina Asif in the industry. The motive behind this story was great and discouraging child marriages was the correct goal. But after adding extreme masala for so many episodes and a child of these married children, the makers thought let’s go for a divorce, leave the child with her child mom and let’s get the hero out of country so he can chill in his life. The ending of Mayi Ri was not properly written and many people were disppointed by it.
Guru
Guru is the best work from Ali Rehman Khan and the way it started was mind-blowing but dragging it to over 20 episodes ruined the story and the ending. It was made to show that love can be present in any gender and how intersex community is targeted by society even if they were doing a very noble thing of giving family to a helpless child. But that is not where the script went as it became all about Maryam’s love, her rishta and what not. What was more disappointing that Guru Sattar never got any respite and died in misery.
