The Punjab government has decided to highlight the initiatives it has taken in different sectors for the next few weeks on the completion of the third year of its tenure.
In this regard, it has published a document that contains the details of development, innovations, and service delivery projects launched in the provincial education sector.

According to details, the Punjab government has established and operationalized 5 new universities in the last three years. 11 new universities are under development and 5 more universities will be established before the end of its tenure.
It has established 75 public sector colleges in the last three years while 86 more colleges will be established before August 2022. So far, it has spent Rs. 1.1 billion on the provision of missing facilities at existing colleges while it plans to spend Rs. 1 billion for the same purpose before August next year.
Moreover, it has converted 590 colleges into Associate Degree (AD) colleges and 201 colleges into graduate colleges offering 4-year BS programs all over the province.
Thanks to its initiatives during the last three years, the number of Punjab’s universities in QS Asia Rankings has increased from 6 to 11, from 3 to 5 in QS World Rankings, and 3 to 21 in Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

Where institutional reforms are concerned, the Punjab government has introduced a robust training strategy and continuous professional development training program. It has also introduced merit-based system criteria for the selection of heads of educational institutes. Service status has been granted to 10 universities and another 5 universities will receive it before August 2022.
It also launched Rehmatul-Lil-Aalameen (PBUH) scholarship program. Under the scholarship program, merit and need-based scholarships worth Rs. 1 billion will be granted to 15,000 college and university students each year.
Besides, it implemented a comprehensive strategy for the revival of sports at public sector educational institutes, under which university sports league was launched.
