The provincial government has composed a new regulation under the Sehat Sahulat Programme (SSP), titled “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universal Health Coverage Act, 2021”, to standardize the state-run free health insurance program.
Under the proposed law, which is currently being examined by the law department, the government will continue to provide basic healthcare services to the citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Sehat Sahulat Programme was initially launched in four districts of the KP province in 2015, covering 3 percent of the population during that time. The program was expanded to 51 percent of the population in 2016, and later, in 2017, it was supplemented to more than 69 percent of the total population.
So far, almost 300,000 citizens have received healthcare coverage under the Sehat Sahulat Programme at both state-run and private hospitals. As per reports, more than 2,000 patients are admitted per day to hospitals and receive treatment under the subsidized model of the healthcare program.
