Danish Kaneria Accuses Mohammad Amir of Blackmailing PCB

The former leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, believes that Mohammad Amir is ‘blackmailing’ the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the team management by repeatedly criticizing them, adding that it is a ploy to get back into the national team.

Amir recently revealed in an interview that he was forced to retire after being disrespected by the current national team management. Earlier, he cited mental torture by the team management as the reason to retire from international cricket and said that he would not play for Pakistan under the current team management.

Kaneria believes that Amir should be grateful for everything the PCB has done for him after he was banned for five years for the spot-fixing scandal in 2010. Kaneria said that Amir’s performances over the last few years have been disappointing, and he should have focused on performing for the national team rather than pointing fingers elsewhere.

“Mohammad Amir should realize that Pakistan was really kind to bring him back after his spot-fixing scandal. However, his performance over the last 1.5 years has been absolutely zero. Agreed, he bowled really well in the ICC Champions Trophy, but since then, he has been on a steep decline,” Kaneria said.

Kaneria was also highly critical of Amir’s statement of trying to get British citizenship. He believes that Amir wants to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hence he has retired from international cricket.

“From his comments on moving to England and getting citizenship and playing the IPL, you can understand his headspace,” Kaneria said.

Kaneria added that the PCB did everything to get Amir back in the team despite opposition from certain players and the fans. He added that even some of the commentators were not in support of getting Amir back into the team, but they had no choice but to accept his inclusion in the team.
