Abhishek Banerjee, Pataal Lok’s serial killer, loves cooking for his wife during lockdown

Casting director, actor Abhishek Banerjee, currently basking in the success of the series Paatal Lok, likes nothing better than to cook for his wife Tina Noronha. “My wife loves the food I make. She gets upset when I don’t cook. I love cooking since my college days. I used to impress girls by making the best Maggie possible. All fried and non-healthy of course. Now I’ve graduated to biryani, Turkish roti and Afghani omelette. I’m handling 80 percent of the kitchen during this lockdown. Cooking while doing promotion interviews,” says Abhishek.

The current isolation is helping Banerjee deal with the sudden spurt of fame that Pataal Lok has brought him. “Lockdown is helping me introspect. There are so many calls, messages, interviews.”
He brought in his birthday on 5 May at home. “I spent my birthday in lockdown. I grew a year older and probably more mature. I’m trying to educate myself. I don't have the patience to read these days, so I’m watching documentaries. Learning about th..

When Rishi Kapoor took on Vyjanthimala for ‘lying’

When it came to calling a spade, a spade no one could do with better than Rishi Kapoor. I’ve been at the receiving end of some of his sharpest barbs. When he didn’t like something you did, he would tell you in your face. Veteran actress Vyjanthimala got the brunt of Rishi’s wrath when in her memoirs she dismissed her alleged relationship with Rishi’s father Raj Kapoor during the making of Sangam as a mere publicity for the film.

Rishi went on a warpath against Vyjanthimala calling her a liar, and many other things. While all this is indeed commendable in the frank speak department, it is a fact that everyone in Bollywood lies in their memoirs. Sanjay Khan has not even mentioned Zeenat Aman in his memoirs and Jeteendra gives a blank look when Hema Malini is mentioned. You can bet your last rupee that if Mithun Chakraborty wrote his memoirs there would be no mention of Sridevi in it.
I remember asking Vyjanthimala about Rishi’s outburst. She had said, “He reacted as a son. But only th..

EXPLOSIVE: Single screen exhibitors SLAM Bollywood; emphasize on more of ‘Rohit Shetty and not Vishal Bhardwaj-type of cinema’ – Part 2

Since a couple of years and until the lockdown was enforced, the success rate of Bollywood films had improved significantly. But that alone doesn’t give a complete picture. Most of these movies made money only in multiplexes, that too in a handful of urban centres. However, India is much more than these few cities. There are several hundreds of towns and villages where several single screen cinemas exist. These can be found in metropolitan cities as well. And in these theatres, majority of our ‘hit’ films prove to be a flop because the content just doesn’t appeal to the audiences there. Hence, it’s no surprise that while new multiplexes are being made in megacities like Mumbai and Delhi; single screens on the other hand are shutting shop.

Several webinars of exhibitors have taken place off late wherein one factor has emerged clearly. The ones in the South are worried right now due to zero business but are more confident of bouncing back. The reason? They know that the South filmmaker..
