PIA plans to operate international flights and more domestic flights to and from New Gwadar Airport. CEO PIA, Air Marshal Arshad Malik, stated this during his visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
CEO PIA was welcomed by President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Muhammad Nassir Mirza, along with office bearers and members of the business community.
During the meeting, members of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry requested CEO PIA to have direct flights from Islamabad to Gwadar, USA, and Europe and increase the frequency of flights to Afghanistan.

CEO PIA assured the business community to look into the requests and to operate flights based on demand prospects and commercial viability of flights. He said that due to no proper refueling set up at Gwadar and shorter runway, the flights to Gwadar are operated via Karachi.
He added that flights to Europe and the USA were dependent on the removal of imposed restrictions. All formalities have been completed from our side, and we are waiting for approval.

CEO PIA also made clear that Roosevelt Hotel is not being sold and that it was never under consideration for selling. He said that with the Government of Pakistan’s support and patronage, the outstanding loan dues of the hotel have been paid.
President of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry assured Arshad Malik of their support in the travel and cargo business.
CEO PIA directed the airline officials to devise a business package for the members of the RCCI. An MoU will be signed in this regard soon.
