The Punjab government has banned the sale of sugar for commercial use. Punjab chief secretary, Jawad Rafique Malik, instructed the provincial field officers to strictly implement the month-long ban strictly.
During the period, sugar mills will be allowed to sell sugar to domestic consumers only.
The decision was made during the price control meeting chaired by the chief secretary, Jawad Rafique Malik. During the meeting, the chief secretary said that the current hike in sugar prices is due to an artificial crisis.
Hike in sugar prices was unjustified, an artificial shortage of the commodity is being created to increase the rate against which stern action would be taken.

The meeting reviewed prices and availability of essential household items, such as flour and sugar. He also reviewed action being taken against hoarders and profiteers in Punjab and the arrangements made for Sahulat Bazaars.
As per the directive of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, providing relief to the people is a priority, and for this purpose, everyone has to work together as a team.

The meeting was informed that province-wide crackdown against profiteers and hoarders continues in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s directives.
During these crackdowns, 475 tons of sugar and 30,000 kg of ghee has been recovered from Vehari.
Moreover, nearly 200 Sahulat bazaars have been established throughout the province where food items, including flour and sugar, are being sold at discounted rates.
