Samsung Expects to Sell 7 Million Foldable Phones This Year

Samsung is the current leader of the foldable smartphone market and the company aims to keep this title. A report from South Korean media suggests that Samsung aims to sell between 6 to 7 million units of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 2 this year.

The report adds that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to ship 3 million units in total while the Z Flip 2 is predicted to receive over 4 million sales. Both of these foldables are expected to launch in July this year, meaning that they will only have 5 months to rack up these numbers.

However, we would recommend taking this report with a grain of salt as analysts predicted similar numbers last year, but Samsung only ended up selling half as many units. The company was estimated to sell around 5 million foldable smartphones in 2020 but only managed to secure 2.5 million shipments during the year.

But since foldable smartphones are more popular at the moment, Samsung may, in fact, be able to pull this off.

Speaking of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the upcoming foldable is expected to feature a number of new highlights. It may come with S Pen support, a stronger display, and an under-screen camera, all of which would be a first for a foldable phone.
