Qualcomm is updating its Snapdragon 7c chip with a new model for 2021. Just like the original, the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 is also aimed at entry-level Windows laptops and Chromebooks priced under $400.

Qualcomm promises that the new SoC brings 10% performance improvements compared to the competition and the battery life has been improved to last 19 hours on a single charge.
The Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 features a slight boost in clock speed and increased frequency for the two Kryo 468 CPU cores up to 2.55GHz. The rest of the package is no different from before, including dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM support, a Hexagon 692 DSP, a Spectra 255 ISP, and a Snapdragon X15 modem. The chipset itself is based on an 8nm process.
It has support for the company’s own Aqstic audio technologies and up to 32MP and 4K HDR video playback thanks to the Spectra 255 ISP. Wireless connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, and 4G LTE.
Qualcomm has said that Lenovo will be one of the first companies to release a budget laptop powered by the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 chip. Details on this laptop are still unknown, let alone a release date.
However, since the chipset has been officially announced, it won’t be long before we start seeing budget laptops featuring the new SoC.
