Parents have taken to the streets against the injustice of private schools in Peshawar, demanding a reduction of school fees.
A demonstration was staged outside the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, in which parents asked school owners to announce summer break and relief in fees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The procession was led by the Parents’ Union President, Alamzeb Khan, former PPP MPA, Mehar Sultana, Legal Advisor, advocate Abbas Sangeen, and spokesman Shahid Niazi. They held banners and placards, demanding the provincial government to address their problems.

The speakers lamented the two different notifications from the ‘so-called’ champions of ‘one Pakistan’ on summer vacation. It took them by surprise that the government had announced summer break for the students of public schools but allowed private schools to continue classes in the scorching heat.
“This is an injustice with parents and children. We demand the minister for education and MD Private Schools Regulatory Authority to render resignations,” one of the speakers said.

Another mentioned that several students fell unconscious due to the excessive heat. However, schools don’t pay attention to the well-being of students as their only concern is money.
The protesters announced to hold the next demonstration outside the chief minister’s house if their demands are not met.
