Pakistan Shuts Down Iran Border

Pakistan has sealed its land border with Iran to avoid the spread of COVID-19 after it was reported that Zahedan city of Iran is in the grip of another virus outbreak.

Sources privy to the matter suggested that Pakistan has closed down the Taftan border, one of the road links with Iran.

“No one is allowed to cross the border from either side,” they said.

The decision was made in the backdrop of a revision in its land border management policy with both neighboring countries.

The country had earlier sealed its land borders with Iran and Afghanistan over apprehensions regarding the transmission of new variants of the COVID to the country.

Thanks to the impeccable handling of the COVID-19 pandemic by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the country has stemmed the third outbreak of the virus in the country that was running rampant until April-May.

The decision to close borders with Iran and Afghanistan was also taken on the recommendations of the NCOC. The revised land border management policy that came into effect on May 4 remained in force until midnight of 19 and 20 May.
