LHC Seeks Report on Allegedly Fraudulent ‘PU’ Housing Society

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought a response from Raiwind police for not registering an FIR against people operating a housing society under the name of the University of Punjab (PU). It has also directed the Vice-Chancellor of the PU and the registrar to submit a written response pertaining to the matter.

A citizen had filed a petition with the LHC stating that he had been denied possession of a five-marla plot in a housing society called ‘Punjab University Town-3’ located in Jia Baga, Raiwind, even though he had made all the payments for it.

The counsel of the PU, Awais Khalid, denied any links between the university and the housing scheme and revealed that it had been privately established by some of its professors. He stated that the PU’s authorities have lodged a complaint against the owners of the society with the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

LDA’s lawyer informed the court that the Raiwind SHO had been asked to register an FIR in this regard.

Chief Justice (CJ) Muhammad Qasim Khan said that citizens are being deceived by the housing society that has been named after the PU, to which the lawyer who had appeared in court on behalf of the housing society declared that an application had been filed with the LDA to change the name of the society to ‘Jamia Town’.

The CJ was disappointed with the PU’s administration for not taking timely action against the matter and directed the Raiwand SHO to appear at the next hearing.
