Azam Khan Ruled Out of 2nd and 3rd T20Is Against West Indies

Pakistan’s young middle-order batsman, Azam Khan, has been ruled out of the second and third T20I against the West Indies after sustaining a head injury during a training session.

Khan was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a blow to the head during batting practice on Friday. Medical experts said that he will be kept under observation for the next 24 hours to assess the extent of the injury. He will be reassessed on Monday to see if he has fully recovered and is out of danger.

His participation in the fourth T20I will be confirmed after this reassessment which will be according to the concussion protocol to ensure that there are no long-term effects of his injury.

Khan is likely to be replaced by Sohaib Maqsood in the line-up for the second T20I that is scheduled for today (31 July) at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. The four-match series is currently level 0-0, with the first T20I having been canceled due to persistent rain.

The former South African captain, Faf Du Plessis, had also recently suffered from a prolonged concussion after being hit in the head during the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the tournament and has not yet returned to competitive action.
