Yesterday, ASUS quietly launched its new 14-inch VivoBook in China. The laptop is focused on power users who have to travel a lot. The new device ships with a gaming-centric processor housed in a sleek and stylish casing.
Design and Display
The ASUS VivoBook Pro 14 features a matte grey paint job and is designed to be ultra-thin and lightweight. The laptop weighs 1.35 kg with a thickness of just 17.9 mm which makes it very easy to travel with.
The display is a 14-inch OLED screen with 2880 x 1800 pixels resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. It supports 600 nits brightness, up to 1000000:1 contrast ratio, 100% DCI-P3 cinema-level wide color gamut, and 1 billion colors.
The laptop is equipped with a backlit chiclet-style keyboard. In addition to this, the laptop packs Harman Kardon sound systems with support for AI intelligent noise reduction. The webcam comes with a privacy shutter, and fingerprint recognition embedded under the power button.
Internals and Storage
The new ASUS VivoBook is available in two variants. The maxed-out variant comes with Ryzen 7 5800H Octa-core processor at the helm. It comes with 16 threads and hums between 3.2 – 4.4 GHz. The slightly toned-down model, on the other hand, is powered by Ryzen 5 5600H Octa-core processor. Both models offer 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB PCIe SSD.
The graphics are handled by AMD Vega graphics. Of course, the slim chassis does not allow for a dGPU, but the Vega iGPUs should still provide decent performance. Moreover, for better performance, the laptop is equipped with a 45W cooling system.
Battery and Connectivity
The new laptop is fueled by a 50 Wh battery that will give you 7 to 8 hours of continuous usage in one go.
In terms of connectivity, the laptop does not offer Thunderbolt connectors. There is no USB-C port, either. It features a USB-A 3.0, two USB-A 2.0 ports, an audio jack, an HDMI video out, and a microSD card reader. It also integrates Wi-Fi 6 support and Bluetooth v5.0
Pricing and Availability
The ASUS VivoBook Pro 14 Ryzen 5 5600H model with 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD is priced at $710 while the VivoBook Pro 14 with Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD is priced at $772. Both models are available on pre-order in China.
