3 Million COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Reach Pakistan From China

To augment the ongoing countrywide vaccination campaign, 3 million doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine have reached Pakistan from China.

During a meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Tuesday, it was briefed that there is no shortage of Coronavirus vaccine in the country and its availability is satisfactory.

Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt. Gen. Akhtar Nawaz Satti, apprised the meeting that more than 21 million doses have reached the country since February this year. Of these, 17 million doses were bought while the remaining were received as donations.

Chairman NDMA said that efforts are ongoing to procure more vaccines from the $1.2 billion funds allocated by the federal government for the COVID-19 vaccine acquisition, adding that all federating units are authorized to procure vaccines independently as well.

The NCOC meeting expressed serious reservations over the rising Coronavirus positivity rate in Gilgit Baltistan and directed relevant authorities to strictly enforce COVID-19 SOPs with regards to tourism.

It also decided to place the announcement of summer vacations in educational institutions at the discretion of all federating units.
