Monopoly of 5 Countries Will Delay Coronavirus Vaccines for the Rest of the World: Fawad Chaudhry

The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has said that the monopoly of the five richest countries on the coronavirus vaccine is a matter of great concern. He has also urged international organizations to take notice of the situation.

He expressed this opinion while addressing a function organized by the Pakistan Science Foundation, UNESCO, COMSATS, and the Pakistan Academy of Sciences at the Comcast Secretariat on World Science Day.

The minister also tweeted the same concerns: “Five richest countries have ordered 500 million doses of the corona vaccine which means that developing countries will need at least two years to get the vaccine,” and added that “the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international organizations need to understand this situation”.

While speaking at the event, he said that the beauty of science is that it changes lives. Distances have been bridged with the development of science and technology, and educational institutions should promote science and technology in the country.

He added that the future of the world depends on the advances in science and technology, and that it is essential for women and girls to participate in this sector.

“If we want to make Pakistan one of the developed countries, our children have to come to science. We also have no shortage of resources. Advanced knowledge of technology can be used. In the future, only those countries whose future is related to knowledge, education, and science and technology will move forward,” the minister remarked.

He said that many challenges have come forth and are still being posed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and remarked that when the first COVID-19 case was discovered in Pakistan, the country had imported medical equipment from China for five months, but that through day and night efforts, Pakistan is now exporting its masks, sanitizer kits, and ventilators to various countries.
