Local tobacco manufacturers are breaching laws regarding advertisements and promotions of tobacco products through cash prizes and other such marketing schemes. Offering incentives, such as cash prizes, to promote the sale of cigarettes is a clear violation of regulatory directives of the Ministry of Health, Business Recorder reported citing collected evidence of the schemes. Local cigarette manufacturers are reportedly offering different prizes such as motorcycles, Umrah tickets, wall clocks, and cigarette cases, etc. Some companies are also offering a free pack of cigarettes on buying five packs.
