Amazon Vice President Resigns After Company Fired Whistleblowers

Tim Bray, Amazon Web Services’ senior engineer, and the vice president just quit his job on account of whistleblowers being fired for trying to bring the sub-par working environment of Amazon warehouse workers.
In his blog post, Bray wrote:
Remaining an Amazon VP would have meant, in effect, signing off on actions I despised. So, I resigned. The victims weren’t abstract entities but real people; here are some of their names: Courtney Bowden, Gerald Bryson, Maren Costa, Emily Cunningham, Bashir Mohammed, and Chris Smalls. I’m sure it’s a coincidence that every one of them is a person of color, a woman, or both, right?
Amazon has been facing criticism about how it has treated its warehouse workers for a while now, and the only way the company is dealing with the situation is by firing employees who raise their voices. Last month, the conglomerate fired Maren Costa and Emily Cunningham for their Seattle Warehouse for criticizing the company on Twitter.

Pakistan Consulate in Dubai Takes Notice of the Sale of Black Market Air Tickets

After repeated pleas made by Pakistanis stranded in Dubai, Pakistani Consulate has taken notice of the sale of air tickets in the black market for special flights arranged to evacuate citizens stranded in the UAE.
In a video message, Ahmed Amjad Ali, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai, asked the stranded Pakistanis to register their complaints about the sale of these air tickets to the diplomatic mission and the local authorities.
The Government of Pakistan has announced the air-ticket fares for the special flights. If someone is charging more than advertised fare, then please report to the consulate or the police.
The Consul General also appealed to Pakistanis to not visit the mission as the tickets are not being sold in the consulate.
Pakistani consulate will call you and you will be asked to go to a designated PIA desk where tickets for the special flights will be issued.

Pakistani Nationals Living Abroad Can Now Vote in Elections Using i-Voting

Taking another step towards the fulfillment of his promise, Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to give Pakistani nationals in foreign countries a right to cast vote through i-voting.
This was decided during an important meeting, attended by the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis, Zulfiqar Bukhari, PM’s adviser on parliamentary affairs Babar Awan, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

PTA, FIA To Take Action Against Those Causing Damage To Telecom Infrastructure

Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has been instructed by the Ministry of IT & Telecom (MoITT) to take action against those individuals or service providers who cause damage to the infrastructure of mobile and fixed-line operators across the country.
“Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) and Fixed Line Operators (FLOs) have requested support for conceivable actions against miscreants who cause damage to the telecom infrastructure across the country,” MoITT’s letter to Chairman PTA read.
“It is necessary that being an essential service, telecom services, and infrastructure installed nationwide is protected for service and business community,” it added.
The instructions also include action on complaints related to ‘assault or intentional obstruction’ to the staff of licensed mobile and fixed-line operators engaged in the provision of telecom services.

Situation Report: Pakistan Adds 989 New Cases, 23 Deaths

After a surge for two days, Pakistan’s new cases dropped to 989 in last 24 hours, as compared to 1,297 new cases reported a day ago.
Of the new cases, 427 cases were reported from Sindh while Punjab had 373 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours. KP recorded 108 new cases during the period. Balochistan, Islamabad, GB and AJK reported 36, 28, 16 and 01 new case respectively.
New coronavirus related deaths also saw a down-ward trend, as total number of coronavirus positive cases who died yesterday stood at 24, down from 32; 17 of them were on ventilator.
KP reported most death with 11 patients dying of complications due to coronavirus. Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan reported 5, 4 and 3 deaths respectively.
Of all the positive cases in Pakistan, 16% of them are imported cases, while another 16% of positive cases are from Tableeghi Jamat individiuals.
A total of 503 health care professionals are also tested positive for cornavirus, while 111 of those have recovered from the virus.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Commerce, Abdul Razak Dawood said that the country’s export target of $25 billion could not be achieved due to the ongoing lockdown in the country and it could decline to $22 billion.
The exports decreased in April by 50 percent and home remittances also declined in this situation, Abdul Razzak Dawood said in an interview.
