Pakistani actresses and actors do not dabble into any other genres once they make it to the top. Mostly they perform very similar characters in different dramas and becoming a villain after becoming a lead actor or actress is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some of our superstars have though broken the mould and they were able to mesmerize everyone with their negative characters and stopped playing just the simple, naive beauties waiting for their prince.
Here are some of the biggest stars in the country who nailed both positive and negative characters and experimented with their roles:
Ayeza Khan
Ayeza Khan is the top star of Pakistan. She can pick and choose from many scripts and she has been delivering only hits for the past few years. The actress took a major risk when she signed up for Mere Paas Tum Ho. All the big stars were rejecting Mehwish but Ayeza said yes. Mere Paas Tum Ho changed the dynamics of the drama industry in terms of international popularity and Ayeza Khan gave the performance of her life. She recently did a slightly negative character in Mein as well but Mehwish will always be the worst-best character to happen to Pakistani television.
Ayeza also has the ability to glow like an angel with a halo over her head. She did that in the recently concluded Jaan e Jahan. She was the beautiful Mahnoor whom we all love and rooted for.
Minal Khan
Minal Khan started out as a child star and later on transformed into the leading lady of dramas. She has done great in her career and people were used to watching her as a very innocent girl in dramas who has no agency. She shocked everyone when she played the antagonist in Jalan. Many people were not even able to digest her character as her performance was so good. There were calls for a ban on the drama and Minal Khan showed that she is capable of doing absolute negative characters.
Minal has also performed well in positive roles as she showed her prowess with big hit Nand. She is on a break right now as she just had her son and she is spending time with her baby boy.
Sanam Saeed
Sanam Saeed is a versatile actress as she has tremendously performed in theatre, film and dramas. She shocked the whole world when she appeared in Kadoorat as her character was a borderline psychopath. Picking up Kadoorat after a project like Zindagi Gulzar Hai was a risk and it paid off due to her strong performance.
She is also a pro in positive characters and her role as Kashaf in Zindagi Gulzar Hai ended up becoming a role model for so many women.
Ushna Shah
Ushna Shah has always tried to pick up unique characters. She has done justice to both positive and negative characters and never limited herself. She performed brilliantly in Alif Allah Aur Insan and she was a phenomenal villain in Balaa. She was hated by the whole nation for that drama (Balaa) which shows how good she was.
She has also done very positive characters like the one she played not too long ago in Habs. She was appreciated for playing a realistic daughter and wife, a typical character that the Paksitani audience likes.
Kubra Khan
Kubra Khan has improved her craft a lot over the years. She has played a borderline negative character in Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay and her latest Noor Bano in Noor Jahan also had an evil streak. She shined in the role and people fell in loved with Noor Bano’s schemes.
She has also played positive characters and fans loved her as Sheherzad in Sang e Mah where she was cast opposite debutant Atif Aslam.
Hania Aamir
Hania Aamir is ruling the screens and hearts these days but she played a very chaotic character in her drama Dilruba. She broke hearts and people started hating on her after she did that role. Not a charcater leading ladies of dramas would usually pick up.
She is playing the green flag character Sharjeena these days and fans just love her.
Saba Qamar
Saba Qamar is among the actresses who always put emphasis on the character and do not think if it is a positive or negative role. She was a menace as Saman in Maat and it is hands down one of the best family-drama genre villains in the Pakistani drama history. She did Maat when she was very young and she still rocked it.
She is also the best when it comes to positive characters and it is evident by her performance in Cheekh.
Durefishan Saleem
Durefishan Saleem is relatively new in the industry but she is choosing her characters well. She has also shown promise that she can do both positive and negative characters well. With Khaie, she killed, connived and showed promise that she can play a villain well.
She also played a head strong, opinionated and positive character in the blockbuster Ishq Murshid.
Iqra Aziz
Iqra Aziz is also counted among the most versatile stars in dramas. She has done several out of the box characters and she played a very negative character in Khamoshi. Her performance was praised though she was very young then and new to the craft.
She went on to play a very powerful and positive character in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi which cemented her as a superstar.
Neelam Muneer
Neelam Muneer made the whole country hooked to Dil Mom Ka Diya when she played Ulfat. A character we all loved and hated at the same time, remains one of the top female antagonists of recent times. Truly a negative character that overshadowed everyone.
She played a very positive character recently in Khumar and it was positively received by the audience.
